How to Have Smooth, Shiny Hair

How to Have Smooth, Shiny Hair
Invest in your hair. You wear it everyday!

Is your hair your crown of glory or it’s more of crown of thorns to you?

Mine was the former but because I was so obsessed for the longest time to look “mestiza” or “tisay” (a term referring to people of mixed native Filipino and any foreign ancestry most specifically the Europeans and Americans), I ruined my hair by constantly dyeing it.  I dyed my hair when I was 18 years old and I didn’t stop until I was 39 years old.

What was once the envy of many women — long, smooth, shiny, jet-black hair— has turned into a frizzy and extremely dry hair. 21 years of dyeing has made my hair’s shaft thin and fragile.  The damage was irreversible and so frustrating that I decided to have a rebond to get my hair back into its original appearance.  Little did I know that I was committing a graver offense to my hair by doing that harsh hair treatment years back!

When I was a year short to turning 40, I decided to finally stop dyeing my hair.  Since I was reaching a milestone very soon, I was scared that I will have a super thin hair where everyone can see my scalp— just like some of those aunties I see!  No offense meant— that’s our final destination— but I will do what I can to delay it and so would you, right?  No amount of hair powder can mask those sparse hair unless I wear a turban!

Thanks to the rising popularity of Asians worldwide (thanks Heart Evangelista and all those Korean stars), I finally was able to embrace and appreciate my long, black hair.

Heart Evangelista is a Filipina actress, TV host, singer, visual media artist, philanthropist, socialite and currently serving as the first lady of the province of Sorsogon.

So at 39 years old, I was back to my original hair color— minus the smooth, silky hair.  I tried a lot of different hair serums but not a single serum did help tame my frizzy hair the whole day.  I need to constantly reapply, and with my hair being thin and dead straight, those serums were weighing my hair down.  Not exactly the look I was going for.

I gave up using serums after wasting my money on them and decided to go for a soft rebond at our local hair salon. I was very happy with the result but it entailed enduring 3 smelly-hair-days!  Thanks to COLAB Dry Shampoo though.  It made those 3 days bearable!  It was absolutely heaven-sent because it did what it was claiming : “amazing oil absorption without white residues”

There will be white residue when you use COLAB Dry Shampoo, but it was nothing compared to Batiste Dry Shampoo in Original! It totally made my hair routine during those No-Hair-Washing-For-3-Days liveable.  Less oil, less smell plus added volume.

After a month or so, although my hair was not stiff like the original rebond, it wasn’t really smooth.  It was definitely not frizzy but it could be better. So my quest to have a long, smooth, shiny hair started again.  It was a trial and error kind of thing for me back then. So now I’m going to share with you what I did to gain the lustre back to my hair.

Make Your Mane The Main Thing.

Do These Steps For Smooth, Shiny Hair.

1. Use boar bristle brush.

My first step to achieving smooth, shiny hair was using again my boar bristle brush.  Boar bristle brushes promotes natural gloss by drawing the hair’s natural oils from its roots to its tips. I use Diane Fromm boar bristle brushes.  You can buy it here.

2. Don’t brush too much and don’t brush your hair upside down.

The old wive’s tale of brushing your hair 100 times or more before going to bed is a faux.  It will only cause your hair to break while brushing your hair in the opposite direction only pulls out a lot of your hair.  What’s the use of doing this if in the end you’ll have lesser hair, right?

3. Take Skin, Hair & Nails supplement.

All the physical regimens mean nothing if you’re not nourished from within.  Focusing on diet rich in vitamin A, vitamin C, silica, and omega-3 fatty acids support shiny hair growth but most of the time, we’re not taking enough of these.  So this kind of supplement comes to the rescue. I take Natrol’s Skin, Hair & Nails Advanced Beauty Capsules and it has helped me achieve my hair goal faster. Go ahead and try this one if taking supplements is also your thing and see the improvement it will do to your skin, hair and nails.

4. Massage your hair daily with Parachute Advansed Ayurvedic Coconut Hair Oil.

According to research, scalp massage increases hair thickness by stretching the cells of hair follicles. This, in turn, stimulates the follicles to produce thicker hair. It’s also thought that a scalp massage may help dilate blood vessels beneath the skin, thereby encouraging hair growth.

But don’t just massage your hair with any oil. Use Parachute Advansed Ayurvedic Coconut Hair Oil. This is hands down the best hair product that I’ve used to make my hair shiny and silky smooth, ladies!  I tried other hair oils but this is really The Best!

It promises to help “prevent scalp irritation, make hair soft, keep the scalp healthy, increase blood flow and also help in headache relief. It takes care of your 7 hair problems like hair fall, dandruff, hair thinning, split ends, rough hair, slow hair growth, hair breakage etc”.

Hair fall control. Gives stronger, softer, silkier hair.

I can’t say anything about its efficacy in stopping hair fall, hair thinning, and speeding up hair growth but what I can swear by is this hair oil will make your hair silky soft!  Just Google it and you’ll see all the rave reviews about it.

This hair oil’s key ingredients are Coconut Oil to help hair grow 3x faster than normal; Amla which helps with hair growth and nourishment; Aloe Vera to help thicken hair; Mehandhi which imparts natural color to hair and prevents dryness; Nagarmotha to help stimulate root and promotes growth; and Methi which softens hair and makes it lustrous and healthy.

So if you want to be amazed at how your hair can be soft and manageable just like the hair you see in commercials, please try this hair oil!  This is very affordable and does so much more than what you’ve paid for.

Cons of This Hair Oil

There are only two downsides when using this hair oil: one is the additional 15 minutes or so added to your self-care routine each night (assuming you take a bath at night and have a nightly skin care ritual) and the other is the strong smell of coconut mixed with other ingredients.  But, if you’re like me and you don’t mind the smell in return for a beautiful hair, please get this wonder hair oil!

You may order here and start experiencing the joy of having a healthy, silky soft hair. Just look at my short video as a testimony.

So those are the hair care tips I have for you, ladies. Let me know when you’ve tried it yourself and see the effects it has on your hair.

It’s my sincerest hope that you’ll finally get the Mane of Your Dreams.
